I usually work from visions I receive. But sometimes a painting arises unbidden on the canvas in front of me. I have no choice but to obey it.

Such was the case with this painting. I had decided to proceed on an entirely different subject, but as I was covering the canvas in a base coat of color, the bear on the right appeared, and brought the whole painting with him.

Richard has been an exhibiting artist for over 25 years, in both the United States and internationally. He lives and paints happily in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife Michele and cat Motorhead.
