Hello bookish people,

It's a long time, but we are back with an episode of the Book series & Me. For this fourth episode, I am going to talk about the second series in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles: The Heroes of Olympus.

An overview of the series

This series is a pentalogy (five books) where you follow seven young heroes: Percy, Annabeth, Hazel, Jason, Frank, Leo, Piper. The author of this series is Rick Riordan, who is the author of the well-known series Percy Jackson and the Olympians and is published by Puffin.

In this series which takes place after Percy Jackson, you follow all of the characters POVs. The big event that is represented is the Gigantomachy.

Book by book

Book 1: The Lost Hero

Summary: We follow Jason, a young boy who doesn't remember anything of his life. Piper has nightmares following the disappearance of her father. And Leo, who is gifted with tools. When they find their way to Camp Half-Blood, they discover they are related to gods, but what does it really mean for them?

Book 2: The Son of Neptune

Summary: Percy is on his way to a camp of half-bloods without remembering a lot about his past except his name and another: Annabeth. Hazel is a young girl that is supposed to be already dead, and due to a mistake in her previous life, the world is at risk. Frank is the descendent of different heroes but doesn't know who his father is; also, he has a secret.

Book 3: The Mark of Athena

Summary: For Annabeth, the journey is difficult as she is given a quest by her mom, Athena, who isn't in the right mind. Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me.

Book 3: The House of Hades

Summary: What is worse than having a quest to save the world? Be separate and find the house of Hades.

Book 3: The Blood of Olympus

Summary: Last moment before the final battle where everyone has a role. The last lines of the prophecy take a sense and some are difficult to accept.

Did I like it and is this series worth it?

My rank for this series is clear 1) The Mark of Athena 2) The Son of Neptune 3) The Lost Hero 4) The House of Hades 5) The Blood of Olympus.

I think that my expectations for this series were too high. The first two books were interesting as you discover new characters and see the ones you already know. Then the third one was my favourite. I nearly gave it a five stars rating, I had the feeling that I was back reading Percy Jackson, but with a multi-POV, also it's the true beginning of the quest. Lastly, the fourth and fifth books were a disappointment. Except for some well-done scenes, I didn't have the woah feeling I was waiting for, and it's a struggle when the books are big ones. I think that the last one was saved by the side quest as some main characters kind of disappeared from the book, which was sad as they were my favourite ones.

Do I will continue to read Rick Riordan's books?

It's a big YES! I'm currently reading the last series of the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles: The Trials of Apollo, and then I will continue with Kane's Chronicles and after Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. Also, in October, a new book will be available: The Daughter of the Deep. Unfortunately, there is no link with the mythology-based ones, but I can't wait to read it.

Did you read this series? If yes, what your thoughts about it? Are you interest to read it if you didn't?

This is the end of the fourth episode. I hope you liked it! The next episode will be about a comic series.

See you next time,

Liz.
