I have been a software engineer for many years. When I was growing up, I loved math and computers and programs, and did not particularly enjoy talking with people! I found out as I got older that writing, in some form, is important for pretty much any job. The first type of writing I did was still very technical though. I wrote research papers and my dissertation. I was still very focused on facts and worked hard to keep my personal opinions private! I became more comfortable putting my ideas down on paper when I started writing blogs. I also realized that I enjoyed teaching - and writing became a big part of that.
