Blurb:

Caitlin O'Connell hides the scars of her past.

Lost. Alone. Afraid.

When she wakes up in the hospital, broken and bruised, Caitlin has no choice but to accept help from the Marchetti crime family... and the one guy she never thought she'd see again.

Matteo Bellatoni wears his heart on his sleeve.

Loyal. Determined. Devoted.

Watching his best friends find love has left him wondering if he'll ever have that... especially, since he's pretty sure he already let his soulmate slip through his fingers.

When Matteo and Caitlin's paths cross unexpectedly, all those feelings come rushing back, and he's determined to prove to her that some guys are worth the risk.

All is not what it seems though.

Caitlin isn't the woman he thinks she is, and her secrets might be too big for Matteo to overcome. But he won't give up without a fight. Even when the past catches up with her and threatens the family he loves so much, Matteo refuses to let her go.

Because he lost her once...

He won't lose her again.

My Review:

Saviour Of Regrets is the final book in the Verona Legacy series. This Mafia Romance series really needs to be read in order to do it justice. You can meet the three main characters and understand the dynamics of their friendship and learn about the Marchetti Family.  Matteo's story can be read as a standalone, however, if you decide to do this then I fully recommend you read Angel Of Tears, the free prequel which tells the story of the fateful night they first meet.

We already knew that Matteo isn't the usual mafia guy and now the differences really come to the fore. He is the kind, charming and sweet one of the three, and my favourite. He absolutely adores his sister and would die to protect her.  His family means everything to him but he also knows he has vowed to protect The Family, given them his life and his future all mapped out for him. He has, however,  started to feel a little lonely and left out as his cousins settle down with the loves of their lives and he wants that. He a romantic at heart and can see how Nicco and Enzo look at their women, and deep down he knows that's what he had with Caitlin that first night.

At the end of Villain Of Secrets the author introduced us to Caitlin when she had her run in with Enzo and as a result of that meeting he had given her his number. This proved to be not only a lifeline for her but fate making sure Matteo found her again. It has been eight months since their night together and Matteo has never forgotten Caitlin. His feelings for her haven't gone away and he is extremely shocked to see it is her that called Enzo.

Zander DiMario was supposed to be Caitlin's way out of her disastrous life but his motives were underhand and manipulative. Her life still wasn't her own and he behaved as if he owned her. Caitlin has some knowledge of the local crime family collecting protection money from the club as it had caused tension recently but didn't know Matteo was part of the Marchetti Family.

Caitlin didn't want to call Enzo but ended up with no choice. She is running not only from DiMarco but also her past. It is what she has been through since a child that haunts her and is the crux of the story, as it affects her deeply. She never expected Matteo to turn up with him or the help they all gave her. Caitlin had been surviving on her own for years and finds it very hard to come to terms with the fact none of them want anything in return for all they do for her. To her things always come with a cost. She has trust issues and won't tell anyone about her past or let Matteo in and this is a big stumbling block to their relationship.

For Matteo it was insta-love. It took a while for him to accept but he knew deep down from the start they had shared something that night. He had always hoped to meet the girl of his dreams but not to find her and then lose her. He felt it was fate that brought her back to him and is determined not to loose her again. He didn't care about her past , just cared about her. Even though he knows she is hiding something, his feelings are so strong that he realises he would fight everyone to keep her.

"It's not your job to fix her, Matteo. It's your job to care enough to help her fix herself."

Matteo's two cousins from the previous books are heavily involved in helping him through the ups and downs with Caitlin. Their other halves also befriend her and try to show her what being part of their family means. Nora is hilarious and I love how she deals with Enzo. Nicco is now showing his true leadership skills and how he can take over from his father. The guys development through this series has been excellent and as a reader I felt we had watched them all grow up and learn to accept their place in the Family.

I found myself getting a little frustrated with Caitlin as she would give in to him one minute and then push him away the next because she couldn't tell him about herself. Poor guy didn't know if he was coming or going! I did guess the twist at the end but the suspense and intrigue at what would happen, built up nicely. Would her secret destroy them like she thought? When it came down to it where would Matteo's loyalty lie? Would Matteo choose her, his family or The Family?

Luckily the author gives us a happy ending for all these guys and brings the series to a fitting finale.
