On her hands and knees, Nikki moved to the other side of the body. She couldn't stop her fingers from trembling as she brushed the dark hair off the victim's face. She couldn't look away. "I know her…"
When Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to the Boundary Waters near Stillwater, Minnesota, it's not just the cold that shocks her to her core: the body of a young woman has been found frozen beside a remote lake. Nikki is devastated to see the victim is her childhood friend Annmarie, and she recognizes the velvet ribbon tied in her hair as the hallmark of a serial killer who she has been hunting for years.
Desperate for justice, Nikki throws herself into the case. But she is shaken by what she finds at Annmarie's home: a dead-bolt on her front door and a map in the spare room, with the locations of murdered women circled in thick, red marker. Did Annmarie know she was next? Then Nikki finds out that the killer has left a clue in Annmarie's bedroom: a photo of Nikki's mother that no one has ever seen. Has the murderer at large been in Nikki's life since she was a child?
Nikki soon realizes that the key to unlocking this case is in her own family, but digging up the past could put her own daughter in danger. She has spent her whole life protecting the ones she loves, but to find this killer Nikki might have to risk everything…
Fans of Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardner and Robert Dugoni will be completely addicted to this heart-pounding thriller. Once you start reading, the twists and turns will have you racing towards the end.

My Review
This is book #3 in the Nikki Hunt series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book, although I would recommend reading the other books in the series for better understanding of the characters. FBI Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to investigate the discovery of a body, but is shocked to see it is someone she knows. It looks like it may be the work of a killer known as Frost who Nikki has been trying to catch for the last few years. There are some subtle differences between this case and previous ones, and it's down to Nikki and her team to work it all out.
I have read the previous two books in the series, but I have to admit that this book was definitely my favourite! I have really liked Nikki's character throughout. She's smart, clever and hard-working, but has experienced some awful things in her life. I loved how she tries to pick herself up and carry on despite what obstacles may come her way. This book unfortunately brings Nikki more upset in so many ways and I really felt for her all the way through the story. The serial killer known as Frost is back and like Nikki, I couldn't wait to find out who Frost was. The storyline was full of suspense, keeping me on the edge of my seat for fear of what may happen next. The location was cold and icy and this certainly helped to send chills down my spine in more ways than one!
The pace picked up as the story moved on and we are slowly fed clues as to who Frost may be. I have to admit I had no idea as to where the storyline was going, and I loved trying to work it out along with Nikki. The book was full of tension right up to the very last page and I found myself turning the pages quickly to reach the conclusion! This book was not only full of heart stopping and jaw dropping moments, but it had me wiping away tears as well. Nikki Hunt is a great lead character and I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this series so far. I shall very much look forward to the next book in the series to carry on Nikki's story! Would definitely recommend!
