LIZZIE

Camille won't reply to my texts, her phone keeps going to voicemail. I must tell her the  truth. I wished I told her from the start.

She may have worried, but she would have understood and helped me. I can't sit in this  hostel any longer, three months in a shared room with bunk beds and no windows.  I'll take what little belongings I have with me; I can't leave anything here it would get  pinched. A couple of pictures, jewellery, and my medication doesn't even fill up one bag.  I have wondered around the same streets over and over; I couldn't face spending another  night in that hostel. Everything is a blur the streets are merging into one. I have nowhere else  to go. I have to go to the apartment. I must see her.

I pray George isn't there, I don't want to make trouble for her but the fear he had drilled into  me was the reason I hadn't come before.

I can see her apartment block up in front, His car isn't here. My hands shake as I press the  buzzer. If he answers I'll stay quiet. no answer, fuck. I'll try the keypad number see if it's

still the same one. Yes! The door opens. I'll take the stairs they never use them, and the lift is  in use I don't want him to see me if he is in there. I knock -nothing, come on answer 'Camille  hello?'

I can't shout any louder than that, I have her key. I unlock the door and enter the apartment,  silence no signs of life, the kitchens tidy, and curtains slightly drawn.

'Camille?'

The bed is perfectly made, bathroom clean, towels dry, no one has been here for a while,  What do I do now?

She must have a pen and piece of paper somewhere in this kitchen I'll write her a letter and  place it in her underwear draw where he won't find it.

Searching the cupboards and drawers I find a bottle of vodka; I don't bother with a glass and  swig from the bottle. I find a pen and sit at the island.

'Dear Camille…'

I have no idea what to write, I take another swig. It's no use! I'm crap at writing like I am  everything else. I scrunch the paper up and go to the bin, I'm shocked when I open the lid to  see the teddy, I gave Camille?

I sit on the wooden floor and pull out my phone and look at the old pictures of us both, I take  bigger gulps of vodka. I'm unable to see clearly, my vision blurred, I open my bag and search  for a tissue.

My medication!

I empty my sleeping pills and antidepressants out one by one. Tears fall fast down my cheek;  I hold the teddy close.

'Oh, Camille, what have I done…'
