A Christmas romance and a castle? Yes, please! I love me a good Christmas novella that takes place in a castle! And the handsome servant falls in love with the Earl's beautiful daughter? Sounds familiar, yet has a nice ring to it, especially about Christmas! Then add in a family ghost meddling in romantic affairs, in a good way, of course!
Edward has some family secrets he's embarrassed about and afraid to tell Lady Daphne. He worries she will no longer want to marry him. This troubles Edward so much that he is unable to develop his book for the publisher and his goal of his first payment on the book. I longer on the table. Even his sister and grandmother press him to talk to Daphne while he avoids the discussion by avoiding her altogether.
The ghost of Daphne's uncle interferes with Edwards plans and that of Daphne's father in hopes of doing good after he unexpectedly passed. It's almost like the ghost of Christmas past becomes the ghost of Christmas for the future. Odd, yet a fantastic rendition.
Thank you to Copperfield Press and The Coffee Pot Book Club for access to Christmas at Hembry Castle by Meredith Allard. I give this novella 5 out of 5 tiaras as it went in an entirely different direction than I imagined and I loved every page!
