I figured it's time to talk about all the book adaptations. I meant to do a post last year but I figured I would wait until I got more information on the Mother of All Adaptations: The Rings of Power. ---Well, that is the adaptation I am looking forward to the most and we got our first teaser and title release yesterday. But before The Rings of Power consume this entire post, we can't forget about all the adaptations.
1) Dune:
I listened to the audiobook and was really impressed by the cast of narrators. I did enjoy the story, even though it had its issues. But it was my husband who wanted to see the movie and that is because of one person: Jason Mamoa. If you met my husband, it would all make sense. I really enjoyed the adaptation with all of its brooding and epic walking, but did it stand out? Not really. I probably won't read the rest of the series, but I will watch the movies when they are available. It isn't something I will be jumping at on opening night.
2) The Wheel of Time:
Ok, I am putting on my scolding mother voice. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS PEOPLE. Do you think we will get another adaptation of Wheel of Time? This isn't something like Spiderman, that will be remade a thousand times! This is a one-and-done adaptation. So if everyone keeps complaining---guess what? It won't get renewed or we will end up with an ending like Game of Thrones. This cast is fantastic and they are keeping to the story. Are there differences?--Of course, HAVE YOU SEEN THE BOOKS?! There are bricks out on my porch that are a fraction of the size of those books. There is no way to include every detail and every plotline. I understand. They are amazing books, but come on! Let's just enjoy things! If you don't like it, that's cool. But when I sat down to watch The Wheel of Time on the day it came out---people were already rating the whole series 1 star and the whole series wasn't even out yet!!! GAH! It isn't perfect, but I am willing to give it a chance and see it develop...but that won't happen if people complain about every little thing. There. I said it. Rant over.
3) The Witcher Season 2:
Yes. Yes. YEEEEESSSSSSSSS. As you all know I have read all the books and have watched my husband play all the games. I could play the games but I am a terrible gamer. I fully support all the Witcher content that is being released, especially the anime! Nightmare of the Wolf about Vesimir was fantastic and I highly suggest it to all my Witcher fans. Now, I LOVED season 1 of The Witcher, and Season 2 is no exception. I am already counting down the days for season 3!
4) Bridgerton Season 2:
So this is a rarity: I prefer the Netflix show over the books. I read the first two books and both were just ok for me, so my hopes for the show weren't that high. So it surpassed my expectations. I am so excited for season 2 and to see Kate shine!
5) The Last Kingdom Season 5:
I am heartbroken that this will be the final season. The Saxon Stories has 13 books. I could have watched this show forever though. It will forever go down as one of my favorites. There is no release date yet, but filming wrapped last summer, so hopefully, we will get a date soon.
6) The Rings of Power on Prime:
Last, but not least. In 223 days we will finally get to watch Lord of the Rings on Prime. We finally have a title, we have one image, and a cast--but not much other than that. The image does show the Two Trees of Valinor and we do know that the show will mostly consist of the Second Age. But based on the teaser and title, we can surmise that we will see a lot of Sauron and the forging of the One Ring. But in order to fully understand Sauron's rise to power, I do hope they explain Melkor/Morgoth, as he is essential in Sauron's rise but I have heard that they will mostly focus on the Second Age. There is SO much possibility. My hopes are high, it will be hard to disappoint me.
So tell me---what are your thoughts?
