So it ends.

With this book we jump straight in from the last. Whilst Luxa has gone to search for the mice or "nibblers" with Howard and Ripred, Gregor has read the Prophecy of Time. Supposedly it is the last prophecy concerning the Warrior and will determine the ending of the war now raging between the rats and the humans.

There is a simple fact with this kind of story: Not everyone can make it out alive and unscathed. Every single book, every quest, has always carried a question as to who will make it back.

War rages in Regalia and Gregor knows what he has to do. It isn't as simple as he would like it to be however as others around him also have their own ideas and Gregor finds himself having to tread carefully and sometimes decide who is an ally, where his loyalties lie and what is really the best move. I think he also has to accept that he has his role to play, which he must focus on and that sometimes he needs to trust others, that he can't do everything.

Yes, it is a little gory and frustrating, sad and devastating. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for humour and beauty as new relationships are forged and Gregor learns to appreciate those in his life.

A pretty fantastic end to the series.
