The third instalment in this set of five.
Once again Gregor is drawn into the Underland. He has already realised that he cannot separate his life from that world, though his parents, particularly his mother, seem intent on keeping him and his baby sister away from the place. But they are now too deeply involved. The Overland and the Underland are not so separate that they can pretend the other never existed.
Another prophecy dictates that Gregor must return and he must take his sister Boots with him. A plague has taken over parts of the Underland and it seems that only the Warrior can save them by following a third prophecy, taking another band of friends and helpers with him. This time, many that played key roles before must step back, although others seem to always be at his side, and Gregor's mission becomes much more personal.
Gregor is led into parts of the Underland that he knew nothing of, learning new stories and new sides to people. Gregor learns a whole new kind of fear but also a new form of bravery.
Now Gregor's life is so greatly entwined with the Underland that he knows he can never truly leave it.
