Guilt at the Garage was a fun visit to Fethering and my friends Jude and Carol. Don't know how I missed this one in 2020. Simon Brett is a greatly talented author and the Fethering Mysteries are my favorite of his series'.
In this one, fussy Carol books her Renault in at the local garage for a wiper change and ends up in the midst of a murder mystery. Well, it doesn't seems like an accident to most at first, but the suspicious minds of Carol and her next door neighbor/friend Jude analyze the incident, as usual, and decide that what happened during the car repair was highly unlikely to occur inadvertently.
Straight-laced Carol and free spirit Jude go undercover to figure out what happened to Carol's favorite mechanic. Did his new wife do him in as some people believe? What about his son? Was the death a suicide? What happened to the will? Who will inherit the car repair shop?
A captivating tale set in a charming seaside town. But I am a bit worried about the future of this series, due to a comment at the close of the story, mentioning Jude's growing wanderlust. Would she really move from Fethering? I certainly hope not. Carol needs Jude to lighten her days, and I need more stories like these.
