Release Date: 15th February 2022 / Publisher: Bookouture
Head of the family crime business, and with a new guy in her life, things have never been better for Scarlet Drew. Working with her aunt Lily on their biggest ever job – revenge on the woman who set fire to their factory, with Lily's daughter trapped inside – Scarlet is suddenly dragged into the local police station to answer questions about the death of a local gangster. The face she sees across the interview table shocks her to her core. It's her new boyfriend, John.
Hours later, John is banging on Scarlet's door, telling her he loves her and she can trust him. Can Scarlet risk believing the only man she's ever loved, or is she putting her family in unthinkable danger?
As the night of Lily's plan draws near, the police come knocking once again. This time with evidence that could see Scarlet locked-up for good. Can they still pull off their biggest job yet, or has Scarlet made a fatal mistake and let John get one step ahead of them?
This is book #3 of the Drew family series. Whilst it's part of a series, it can be read as a standalone read. We meet again the Drew family, a London crime gang. Scarlet Drew has picked up the reins after her father was killed, and is working alongside her Aunt Lily and cousins, Cillian and Connor. Revenge is high on the cards after what happened at the end of the last book, but Scarlet also has more things to worry about when she is pulled in by the police to answer questions about the death of a local gangster.
I've really enjoyed this series and equally enjoyed this latest instalment. The Drew women are certainly a force to be reckoned with, particularly Lily Drew. Revenge is definitely a dish best served cold, and Lily certainly keeps the recipient on ice whilst she works out what this revenge will consist of! The author's portrayal of Lily's character puts great pictures into my head as I read of what Lily would look like, and I love how, despite never having anything to with any gangland families, everything is so realistic…you can feel the fear and violence oozing out of the pages!
This storyline is fast paced, but with the usual violence and bad language, so beware if easily offended. Of course, it's all in keeping with the theme of the book and certainly added to the tension throughout. The Drew family are trying to hold everything together following what happened to Ruby and Scarlet, and the only way to do this is to show the other rival gangs who's the boss! There are lots of twists and turns to the plot and the author has cleverly managed to fit so much into the storyline, lining up the next book in the series with another jaw-dropper of an ending!
The author has yet again managed to set my teeth on edge throughout, and even my stomach churning with a particularly savage way of getting rid of an enemy! Favourite character, bar Lily of course, has to be newcome Billie! Is she really a natural gangland woman, or does she have an ulterior motive? Either way, I really liked the integration of her character slowly into the family! I also loved a quick visit from a couple of characters from the previous series, it's always nice to see the Tylers! The author has left us with so many unanswered questions…what happens next with Ruby…can John hold his nerve…and does Lily finally get it together with Ray??? I seriously can't wait until the next book to see what happens. This author is most definitely the Queen of Gangland Crime! Would recommend!!
