A few years ago, I borrowed a book by Julie Klassen from a local library. I remember it was on the new releases shelf and it sounded like an interesting read. Little did I know at first that it was book 3 of the Tales from Ivy Hill series.
Later, I found another Ivy Hill book on NetGalley, which I still need to read! And I will post a review once I accomplish the task!
Anywho, a couple weeks ago, my son wanted to do some Pokรฉmon Go hunting and we ended up at the same library. I found books 1 and 2 there, just waiting for someone to snag it to read! I've been reading another excellent book at the same time, so it's taken me a bit longer to complete than I expected.
This story takes place in the 1800s when people still travel via horse carriage. It's a small town of Ivy Hill with an Inn that's been passed down generations, called The Bell. The owner of The Bell has suddenly passed away and bequeathed it to his wife, Jane, who knows nothing about running the place. Even his mother has left town as she expected to have some say in running the property, but wasn't given the opportunity.
There's many questions that arise as Jane finds a bank loan is overdue and payment expected. Her late husband was run over by a carriage out of town. The Bell seems to be falling apart. And there's not enough income to pay the staff. Jane takes it all in stride when her mother-in-law returns to Ivy Hill to see the Inn in disarray. How will Jane pay the bank loan she knew nothing about with The Bell falling apart?
Be ready for an emotional ride as you get to know the Ivy Hill residents and The Bell staff when you read the Tales from Ivy Hill series! I give The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen 5 out of 5 tiaras because I enjoy getting to know her beautiful characters and all they go through. It's amazing how so much happens in such a small town!
