#MyHavenDays – A Fun Family Holiday at Seton Sands in Scotland

During the school Easter holiday my family and I went on a fun family holiday to Scotland. Here is my review of Seton Sands Holiday Park.

This was our first holiday as a family since before the pandemic. There have been some challenging times during the past couple of years, and I won't go into detail here. Suffice to say that this holiday represented some healing in my marriage and subsequently for our family. My friend suggested we stay at Seton Sands, so we booked a caravan and off we went.

The caravan park is situated between Port Seton and Cockenzie, and Longniddry on the Golf Coast of Scotland. I didn't even know such a thing existed, but we saw a lot of golf courses on our travels that week! Some are right on the cliff edge, and I do wonder how many golf balls have been lost in the sea over the years. There was some beautiful scenery in the area, with beaches that are both sandy and rocky, sand dunes to explore, and castle ruins and remnants of an industrial past. It set my imagination going and I'm sure I will write a paranormal novel set in the area eventually.

Seton Sands is a Haven holiday park, and our caravan was lovely. It had three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a modern electric fire, and all the usual creature comforts contained in a spacious, clean environment. We parked our car safely just outside the caravan, and we were on a corner of the park that overlooked a horse paddock, so we got to watch the horses scampering about. We were just five minutes' walk from the beach, and there are regular buses that go from Seton Sands to Edinburgh and surrounding towns.

Ah yes, the bus. We took the bus to Edinburgh one day and our dog loved it! This was his first bus ride, and he was very well behaved, which we were pleasantly surprised about. The journey was short and followed the coastline for much of the way, so we had lots to see from the windows. Our daughters insisted that we sit on the top deck, and they enjoyed it. In Edinburgh we found some quirky shops to explore, we walked along the Royal Mile and admired the views from outside Edinburgh Castle, and we found some dog-friendly places to eat. We had lunch in the beer garden at The Devil's Advocate pub which was accessed from a steep flight of stone steps in the old part of the city. We had dinner outside the Rose Café which was a lovely street venue and finished our day perfectly.

Other excursions that week included a visit to North Queensferry to admire the Forth Bridges. The old rail bridge is a spectacular structure and fascinated me and my husband. Our girls enjoyed driving across the Forth Road Bridge (the new one) and we had fun admiring the views, watching trains go over the bridge, and searching for sea glass on the small beach. Ah yes, the sea glass! I like to collect it whenever we visit a beach, and we found lots of it in Scotland.

I can say that our holiday to Seton Sands was fantastic. We came home feeling relaxed and happy, and we want to visit again. Have you been there, or any of the places we visited?
