Description of the book: Adapted from the original libretto of the world-famous, multi-award-winning light musical opera that has been playing continuously around the world for 33 years comes this fully authorized graphic novel adaptation.
In 1881 the cast and crew of a new production, Hannibal, are terrorized by the Phantom of the Opera, a mysterious, hideously disfigured man who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. Hopelessly in love and obsessed with one of the chorus singers, the Phantom will stop at nothing to make her the star of the show, even if that means murder.
How this book made me feel: I think everybody knows this book. This story came to people in various formats, and I know what it is about, but I never saw the films, never saw the opera and I never read the story. I am ashamed of that, but I had the chance to familiarize myself by reading this graphic novel. It was a little different from what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it.
The phantom of the opera is obsessed with Christine, a young and beautiful singer whom he was training. He is trying to make her the lead of the show, but everything changes once Raoul appears on the scene, the phantom gets very jealous and tries to separate the lovers. The whole book is very dramatic, filled with anger, control and narcissistic behaviour. The phantom is very scary and forceful and I did not like him one bit. There is very little text in this book, but there are lots of song lyrics. Unfortunately, I don't know any of the songs from this show.
I liked the narrative of this book but sometimes it was hard to grasp what was going on, I would have liked more backstory. There are no chapters in this book, the story just flows, and it was a quick read for me. I really liked the illustrations in this book, they were very beautiful and I am very happy that I was able to familiarize myself with this story.
So, to conclude, it is a beautifully delivered book, with stunning artwork and a classic story in a very easily readable and enjoyable format. I am very happy to have this book, and I hope you will get it as well, it is every collectors must have. Thank you for your time
