I'm delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for Cold Cold Bones by bestselling author Kathy Reichs. Thank you to Anne Cater and Simon & Schuster for giving me the opportunity to read and review this gripping thriller, which is the twenty first installment in the Temperance Brennan series.
About the book:
Sometimes, revisiting the past is the only way to rescue the present . .
Winter has come to North Carolina and, with it, a drop in crime. For a while, temporarily idle forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan is content to dote on her daughter Katy, finally returned to civilian life from the army. But when mother and daughter meet at Tempe's place one night for dinner, they find a box on the back porch. Inside: a very fresh human eyeball.
GPS coordinates etched into the eyeball lead to a Benedictine Monastery where an equally macabre discovery awaits. Soon after, Tempe examines a mummified corpse in a state park, and her anxiety deepens.
There seems to be no pattern to these random killings, except that each mimics in some way a killing that a younger Tempe witnessed, analysed, or barely escaped.
Who or what is targeting her, and why?
Helping Tempe discover the answers is Detective Erskine 'Skinny' Slidell, retired but still volunteering with the CMPD cold case unit - and still displaying his gallows humour. But as the two infiltrate a bizarre survivalist's lair, even Skinny's mood darkens.
And then Tempe's daughter Katy disappears.
Electrifying, heart-stopping and compulsive, this is Tempe's most personal and dangerous case yet . . .
About the author:
Kathy Reichs's first novel Déjà Dead was a number one bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. A Conspiracy of Bones is Kathy's nineteenth entry in her series featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Kathy was also a producer of the hit Fox TV series, Bones, which is based on her work and her novels.
Dr. Reichs is one of very few forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. She served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American Board of Forensic Anthropology, and as a member of the National Police Services Advisory Council in Canada.
She divides her time between Charlotte, North Carolina, and Montreal, Québec.
My Review:
Cold Cold Bones is the twenty first novel in the Temperance Brennan series of books by acclaimed author Kathy Reichs. With an author of this calibre, you always know you're in for a thrilling rollercoaster of a ride as soon as you start reading. And Cold Cold Bones is certainly no exception.
Although Cold Cold Bones is part of a long running series it can easily be read as a standalone, although why you would want to with a series as entertaining as this one is beyond me! I was transported back into the world of Temperance Brennan from the very first page, with Tempe finding herself caught up in a case that takes a chilling turn when her daughter Katy disappears. With Detective Erskine 'Skinny' Slidell by her side, Tempe is about to take on her most personal and dangerous case yet…
As a fan of this series, Cold Cold Bones is everything I hoped it would be and more. Exciting, dark and fast paced, it is yet another gripping thriller that kept me guessing throughout. The story revisits some old cases from the past as the killer copies murder cases that a younger Tempe either witnessed or was in some way a part of. As the tension ratchets up to breaking point, can Tempe uncover the identity of the killer before it's too late?
I love the character of Temperance Brennan and enjoyed spending time with her once again. Kathy Reichs is an author at the top of her game who knows how to write a tremendously good thriller, and Cold Cold Bones did not disappoint. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for this much loved character next!
Recommended.
