Title: The Boss Project
Author: Vi Keeland
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 11, 2022
BLURB
The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview.
Well, technically, I'd met him twenty minutes earlier when he'd barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment.
I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut.
As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss.
Yet he didn't seem to recognize me. Or so I thought… Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.
Okay, so maybe I hadn't exactly been changing when he walked in on me. In my defense, I'd been stuck on a hot train for two hours and wanted to make sure I didn't smell.
I obviously didn't expect to get the job. But somehow an invitation to a second interview arrived in my inbox.
Before I left, I asked to see Merrick. I needed to know why I was even in consideration after our disastrous start.
Turned out, Merrick only wanted to hire me because I was the least competent candidate. It seemed his board was making him fill the position, against his wishes.
I didn't really want to work in a place where my boss expected me to fail. But I figured maybe I'd enjoy proving him wrong. It was a little thing I dubbed the boss project.
What I wasn't prepared for was that there would be other things I'd enjoy doing to Merrick Crawford.
Getting involved with the boss wasn't the smartest choice.
But you know what they say about choices: Some we regret, some we are proud of. I just had no idea where this one was going to land.

I really loved this book - Vi totally sucked me in with these characters! Evie and Merrick were just fantastic, they made me laugh and smile and swoon! I thought this was a great take on the workplace romance with a touch of enemies to lovers and it's got that great slow burn feeling that just has you wanting so much the characters.
Evie is looking for a new job, and really a new chapter in life, after hers was destroyed by her cheating fiancé/husband. She basically has to start over so she starts the interview process to find her next adventure. Of course, things go all kinds of wrong the day of the biggest interview with some epically embarrassing moments and just when she's determined to move forward, the gorgeous and somewhat obnoxious man is the one she's interviewing with and could be her potential boss.
These two have one hell of a start, it's contentious to say the least, Merrick doesn't even want Evie's therapist position to exist within his company and certainly doesn't think Evie is qualified, but is has to be filled. Evie is determined to show she can be successful and make a difference, so, it's game on between these two. I really loved the dynamic between them, there is a simmering attraction that they cannot deny, no matter how much sass and snark is thrown around. It was just fun and entertaining to watch them. And when you add in Merrick's awesome grandma, it's just perfection.
These two come with some major baggage though and that's really where the heart of this story develops. With this book, I think it's important that it unfolds for the reader so I don't want to spoil anything. It's emotional and powerful though and broke my heart for a bit, while at the same time making me fall so deeply in love with these characters.
I loved this book, it was a wonderful combination of emotional and fun and I didn't want to put it down. My only issue was that the ending felt a bit rushed, I just wanted a bit more to pull it all together for me, but still a fantastic read and some of my favorite Vi characters!
