A lovely day out at the cricket

The first Test match in Perth since 2019 as Australia put the West Indies in the gun barrel, and what a great time to go, as dwindling enthusiasm in the Australian national team, plus having a Test in one of the worst times & dates possible for everyone means the crowds barely cracked 10,000, but forget about all that, the main positive is that the queues for a beer at Perth Stadium have never been shorter.

A few highlights from the photo collection:

Pre-game barefoot ceremony:

A pre-game tribute to Rod Marsh, given this is the first Test match played in Perth since 'Bacchus' died in March:

Usman Khawaja and David Warner (Plus the rest of the Australian team not seen in the shot) taking a knee alongside the West Indians before the opening delivery as a mark of respect:

David Warner, mere moments after smacking a ball to the rope for 4, leaving the field after chopping on and removing his own leg stump.

The one moment where the Windies had a bit of confidence in themselves... Before Khwaja and Labuschagne belted it out of them.

Due to WA banning single-use plastic cups last month, the cups at Optus now look like this.... Deadset, when I first saw them, I thought the bloke sitting next to me had bought a coffee without the lid.

Why this cup?

Good question, it looks like a coffee cup.

Moving on, this is a piece of cricketing history on display in the River View Room - The scorecard from January 30, 1993, when Curtly Ambrose produced one of the greatest spells of bowling in the history of Test cricket, taking 7 wickets for 1 run in the space of 32 balls to send Australia from 3/90 to 119 all out, leading to the West Indies' eventual victory by an innings and 25 runs, continuing their love affair with the bouncy WACA deck.

Marnus Labuschagne bringing up his century just before Tea:

Another highlight came when I had a big brain moment and realised the Belmont races were on today, so out of curiosity I went up to Level 5 to see if I could get a good look at the track....

And what do you know, Race 6 comes around at 4:30, I jumped on the favourite, and I managed to see him absolutely crap it in:

Back in the old days you could try and watch the Gloucester Park trots from the WACA... now you can watch Belmont from Perth Stadium!
