Unlike any other book I've ever read! The beautiful young Anthea Halliwell has been living a lie hovering over her head for several years. Who she thought was her good friend blamed her for stealing a precious necklace. Anthea insists she didn't steal it, but no one seems to believe her.
Having this over her head, plus her father gambling all his money, Anthea decides to ask a man her father trusts with finances and advances, Gideon Rodrigo. Never did she expect that the handsome Gideon would come up with the most unusual solution to Anthea's problem, he offered her hand in marriage!
Gah, talk about a knight in shining armor! Gideon holds his own issue of being "less than" because he is a Jew, but he holds his own as a man of honor and financially stable. He's apparently been in love with Anthea for many years! His teenage daughter sees how he is with Anthea as nothing she ever saw in him with her late mother.
They elope immediately and Gideon asks a couple from Sussex to swing by for a few weeks to help solve the mystery of the elusive necklace that forced Anthea to become a recluse all those years. John and Lydia Savidge come to Bath to assist Gideon in his quest to release Anthea of the rumors. John and Lydia become fast friends with Gideon and Anthea.
It also appears that more is being hidden than just what actually happened to this necklace. Will John and Lydia be able to solve the mystery before it's too late?
I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras because it's a storyline I never saw coming. Here I thought he whispers were only because of Anthea's necklace stealing rumors when really there was so much more to it!
