About the author:

Eva Rice has written 5 novels and is the author of the Sunday Times bestseller The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets - a post-war coming-of-age story that was runner-up in the 2006 Richard and Judy Book of the Year. It is currently being developed by Fudge Park (creators of The Inbetweeners) and MoonagePictures (Pursuit of Love) as a major new TV series.

Eva has toured with bands since her early twenties. She has written the music and lyrics for Harriet a musical based on an early Jilly Cooper novel due to open in 2023. She has a geek-like fascination with pop music, and her party trick is recalling chart positions.

My Review:

This Could Be Everything is the charming new coming of age novel by bestselling author Eva Rice. It's a beautifully written story that feels like a warm hug in book form as it introduces us to nineteen year old February Kingdom, just as her life is about to be rocked by a family tragedy.

The year is 1990, which really does give this book a particularly nostalgic feel to it, especially for those of us who either grew up or were young adults at that time, on the cusp of spreading our wings and starting out on life's great big adventure.

Knocked sideways by what has happened, February is locked in her own world of darkness. But then one day she finds an escaped canary in her kitchen and it sparks a glimmer of hope from somewhere deep down inside of her. With the help of the bird, February slowly begins to pull herself out of the darkness and back into the light…

This Could Be Everything is a heartwarming coming of age drama that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Very much a character driven story, there is a gentleness to this book that drew me in from the outset, with February soon becoming one of those characters who you can't help but fall in love with, her story tugging at your heartstrings at the same time as filling your heart with hope.

I don't want to say too much more, so all I will say is that Eva Rice's writing is captivating as the story of February and a little bird called Yellow is brought vividly to life. With a heartwarming, often moving storyline that made my heart sing, there isn't anything I didn't love about This Could Be Everything.

Pure escapism at its very best, this is a coming of age story that I know will stay with me for a long time to come.

Highly recommended.
