I'm delighted to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for the wonderful Promise Me by Jill Mansell. Thank you to Anne Cater and Headline for giving me the opportunity to read and review this lovely book.
About the book:
One minute Lou is happily employed, with a perfect flat. The next, her home and job have gone. Suddenly she has to start over.
The last thing Lou wants is to move to a tiny Cotswolds village. She certainly doesn't intend to work for curmudgeonly eighty-year-old Edgar Allsopp. But Edgar is about to make her the kind of promise nobody could ignore. In return, she secretly vows to help him fall in love with life again.
Foxwell is also home to Remy, whose charm and charisma are proving hard to ignore. But Lou hasn't recovered from the last time she fell for a charmer. She needs a distraction - and luckily one's about to turn up.
Secrets never stay hidden for long in Foxwell, nor are promises always kept. And no one could guess what lies ahead...
About the author:
Jill Mansell's books are full of love, life and friendship and have been bringing joy to readers for twenty-five years. She started writing fiction while working in the NHS, after joining a local creative writing class. She has since written over twenty Sunday Times bestsellers, including MAYBE THIS TIME, THIS COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING and YOU AND ME, ALWAYS, and her books have sold over 11 million copies around the world.
Jill's hobbies include buying stationery, particularly magical new colours of ink for the fountain pen she uses to write all her books – Jill is one of the few authors who still write their books by hand. Jill also loves people-watching and finding new characters to put in her novels. So when you're out, make sure to always be on your best behaviour. And beware of beady-eyed authors carrying notebooks . . .

My Review:
Promise Me by Jill Mansell is a heartwarming feel good read that is pure escapism at its very best. Beautifully written and full of the warmth and humour we've come to expect from this talented author, this is the perfect read to curl up with during these cold winter nights.
Lou is more than happy with her lot. She has a job she enjoys and the perfect place to call home. But then in the blink of an eye it's all gone and she finds herself facing the prospect of having to start all over again. The last thing she ever would have expected is to move to a tiny village in the Cotswolds, but when curmudgeonly eighty year old Edgar Allsopp makes her the kind of promise nobody could ignore, Lou vows to do everything in her power to make the old man fall in love with life again.
With a larger than life cast of characters, many of whom you can't help but fall in love with, Promise Me is everything I hoped it would be and more. Jill Mansell's writing is as gorgeous as ever as these characters are brought so vividly to life you feel as though you know them. Captain Oates is a particular highlight for me, as is his bond with the grumpy Edgar as they begin to forge the most unlikely of friendships that will melt even the hardest of hearts.
Promise Me is an uplifting read about love and friendship that captures your heart from the very first page. With an eclectic cast of characters and a story set against the stunning backdrop of the Cotswolds, this is the perfect book to curl up with at the end of a long day. Jill Mansell is an author at the top of her game who just keeps on going from strength to strength. I loved this book and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is looking for a lovely gentle read to escape with this winter.
A simply gorgeous read that I would highly recommend.
Promise Me by Jill Mansell is available to purchase now.
