Book 31/2023
Of late I have found myself in a bit of a dreaded "book slump" and my normal methods to defeat it were not working, so I went for my back up of "read a classic".
While I normally reserve this for a classic book I have read before, this time I went with one were I was familiar with the story. In this case it turned out I merely THOUGHT I was familiar with it due to it's frequent pop culture references.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is told mostly from the viewpoint of Dr. Jekyll's friend and lawyer Mr. Utterson. A series of strange events are occurring involving one Mr. Hyde. Mr Hyde appears to have a connection to Dr. Jekyll and from this Mr. Utterson becomes interested, and later involved, in solving the mystery of who Mr. Hyde is.
There are not many people who don't know the basics of where this story ends up but I was largely unaware of the course the story takes in Robert Louis Stevenson's original tale. Paapa Essiedu narrated the version I listened to and did a great job, despite some reviews to the contrary I thought they delivered the story in a fashion representing the darkness of the story.
Really enjoyable listen that has hopefully helped to defeat the slump, at least a little.
