For Harrison Ford last Indiana Jones I have to write a review.
The movie starts out pretty cool and somehow shows that Indy is immortal. Using de-aging, it shows where the budget went to because they were scenes where it looks incredible, then others where not so much. Indy is captured by Nazi's during WW2 and learns about Antikythera, Archimedes creation where he figured out a way to time travel. This adventure is with a archaeologist Shaw, who he was so close to that he named Indiana Godfather to his own daughter.
Harrison Ford is back but I will say that even at 80 the man is acting his ass off. He's a drunk and as separated from Marian and retiring from teaching. I get the fact that he's been through a lot and one in particular, would set anyone off the rail. But I didn't like seeing him in that state. Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays Helena, Indy's Goddaughter, tracks him down to steal the mechanism from him.
Up until the end I hated her. No way shape or form was I buying their relationship, or why she's was willing to let him die. She's a gambler and owes a lot of people money so what better way to pay off those debts than to steal artifacts and get paid. Even though she knows the significands of them.
Mads Mikkelsen plays the main villain, Dr. Voller, "former Nazi" who has been hired by NASA for personal gain. Mikkelsen just captivates when he's on screen. This guy takes control of the whole room and just like Indy, guess he's immortal too. He should have died, painfully when he first came face to face with Indiana Jones during the war.
The movie felt too long in my opinion, where they traveling to different places for just action sequences and no real reason. One of the things that I enjoyed in Indiana Jones movies was the fact that even though there were action in them that wasn't the core of them. Dial of Destiny wasn't necessary and to say it was to have Harrison Ford's character have a send of, that could have been with The Last Crusade. Hence the title. Without giving too much away, the end did get me, though I have to say I believe it was because of nostalgia.
It wasn't a terrible movie and I will say, for the record and my opinion, better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Indiana Jones will forever be three movies, and three movies alone. Harrison Ford must have loved working on this project one last time, and for that I give thanks, as a fan.
It has been a pleasure Professor Jones.
