Synopsis
Lizzy Moon never wanted Moon Girl Farm. I read The Echo of Old Books not too long ago, which was a 5 star read for me, so I was excited to start this one. While I found that it didn't quite live up to The Echo of Old Books, I still really enjoyed this book.
I felt like it was a little slow to start and to get into for the first 25% of it, but once I got past that, the characters and the unfolding of the story kept me interested. But you should definitely go into this book knowing that it's slower paced. The Echo of Old Books was slower-paced as well, so I was prepared for it. The author likes to take her time with it, but it's okay because it means a better developed story and cast of characters.
The Last of the Moon Girls reminded me a lot of an ARC I was able to read recently, The Witches of Bone Hill, except that this was less gruesome and gritty and this one had a more developed romance. The plot and characters don't really resemble each other, but it's the whole witch-returns-to-old-manor-house thing. Or in this case, farm. Still, I really loved the familiarity of that feeling.
The various elements of the book were well-balanced throughout the story, though I find myself wishing for more of the magic element. Still, I enjoyed this one quite a lot. It's one of those that you will want to just let your brain meander through. It doesn't ask a lot from you, just wants to give enjoyment. Magic, mystery, and romance plus a HEA, what more could you ask for?
