After revealing the rocky, anthemic pre-release Back To Me last week, The Rose have returned with their latest single Alive. Like Back To Me, this is an English-language release. It sees the group tackling a groovier sound than normal -- even incorporating a dubstep-influenced breakdown before the bridge.
This experimentation is welcome, especially since I found the band's last album pretty underwhelming. Alive is a solid track. I wish it leaned harder into its more idiosyncratic sounds, but the guys deliver a pleasant, head-nodding mid-tempo that will likely grow more addictive with time. I like the mix of resonant percussion and atmospheric synths. A more explosive chorus could have enhanced the song's energy, even if the end result is rhythmically satisfying.
