After reading the Rebirth run I wanted to go back and read the New 52 run of Supergirl to see how different it is written. I did enjoy Rebirth more but the more I got to the end of the run and Kara's character became full developed, I found myself really liking this take on the Girl of Steel.
To start with, I found it quite hard to get into the story and to get to know this Kara. She's very antagonistic when she first arrives on Earth, shes confused, can't speak English, and has these powers which makes her think everyone is against her.
She does build some really good friends throughout which was nice to see, as well as cameos from her super cousin and his super dog.
My least favourite in the series is Volume 4. The reason for this is there were a lot of flashbacks and flashforwards. Although it did clear up what had happened before and fill in some gaps, I just got very confused about where the story was going due to the continuous jumps in time.
It definitely picks up with the latter half of the series and I really enjoyed it by the end!
If I go back and re-read the series, I'll definitely try and read them in order so this first and then Rebirth. It's good to see the difference in the character arcs depending on who writes them.
Supergirl is a character I really resonate with, I thought I wouldn't with New 52 Kara but in the end I did and I loved that.
Thanks for reading
Stay Super!
