I'm pleased to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for mesmerising historical novel Eternal by Lisa Scottoline. Thank you to Anne Cater and No Exit Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
About the book:
What war destroys, only love can heal.
Elisabetta, Marco, and Sandro grow up as the best of friends despite their differences. Elisabetta is a feisty beauty who dreams of becoming a novelist; Marco the brash and athletic son in a family of professional cyclists; and Sandro a Jewish mathematics prodigy, kind-hearted and thoughtful, the son of a lawyer and a doctor. Their friendship blossoms to love, with both Sandro and Marco hoping to win Elisabetta's heart. But in the autumn of 1937, all of that begins to change as Mussolini asserts his power, aligning Italy's Fascists with Hitler's Nazis and altering the very laws that govern Rome. In time, everything that the three hold dear--their families, their homes, and their connection to one another--is tested in ways they never could have imagined.
As anti-Semitism takes legal root and World War II erupts, the threesome realizes that Mussolini was only the beginning. Against this backdrop, the intertwined fates of Elisabetta, Marco, Sandro, and their families will be decided, in a heartbreaking story of both the best and the worst that the world has to offer.
Unfolding over decades, Eternal is a tale of loyalty and loss, family and food, love and war--all set in one of the world's most beautiful cities at its darkest moment. This moving novel will be forever etched in the hearts and minds of readers.

My Review:
Eternal by Lisa Scottoline is a mesmerising historical story of love and betrayal that drew me in from the very first page and held me captivated throughout. Elisabetta, Marco, and Sandro's story is one of great beauty but also of devastating sorrow and heartbreak as anti-Semitism begins to take root and World War 2 erupts.
This epic tale of love, secrets, loyalty, betrayal and heartache is set against the backdrop of war, with the intertwined fates of Elisabetta, Marco and Sandro taking centre stage in a heartbreaking story of both the best and worst of what the world has to offer.. Steeped in history, Eternal is a beautifully written, character driven story that I couldn't help but fall in love with. The odds are stacked against the trio of friends and their love for one another, but will that love prove strong enough to withstand the horrors of the second world war? Or will it crumble and leave them broken in its wake?
Lisa Scottoline has written a powerful and thought provoking saga of love, war and betrayal that spans decades. Never shying away from the horror and brutality of war, the tension was palpable as the story unfolded. With strong characters and a heartachingly beautiful love story, Eternal is a gorgeously written, well plotted historical novel that I did not want to end.
A mesmerising read that I would highly recommend.
