For my second post of the day I'm thrilled to welcome you to my stop on the blog tour for the paperback release of deeply personal and insightful memoir Waypoints: My Scottish Journey by award-winning actor, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Sam Heughan, best known for his starring role as Jamie Fraser in the hit TV show Outlander. Thank you to Anne Cater and Octopus Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this remarkable book.

About the book:

'Waypoints is a memoir with a difference! I wanted to tell the stories and share the experiences that have shaped me, but to do that I needed to challenge myself and spend some time in my own company, away from the distractions of everyday life. And for me there's no better place to reflect than in the wild Scottish Highlands.'
SAM HEUGHAN

In this journey of self-discovery, Sam Heughan sets out along the West Highland Way to explore his heritage and reflect on the personal waypoints that define him. The result is a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to Sam, and a charming, funny, wise and searching insight to the world through his eyes.

The walk itself is the backdrop for this narrative, which tells the story of Sam's life while exploring his outlook, values and interests. Sam is a figure
of fascinating contrasts, a Hollywood star with deep roots in rural Scotland, he's both outgoing and content in his own company. He has strong connections with his fans while recognising
the fragility and value of anonymity.

In this book, while charting a path through a stunning wilderness, Sam maps out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendships, love and life.

My Review:

Waypoints: My Scottish Journey by award winning actor, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Sam Heughan is a deeply personal and insightful memoir that I've been looking forward to reading for some time. And I must say it did not disappoint!

But this isn't your typical 'tell all' celebrity memoir that dishes the dirt behind the scenes in Hollywood. Instead, what we're presented with is a journey of self discovery as Sam sets out along the West Highland Way to explore his heritage and reflect on the personal waypoints that define him. The result is a deeply personal love letter to the Scotland that means so much to Sam, as he gives us a glimpse into his world and talks about his career, family, friendships, love and life.

Sam talks of the strong connection he has with his fans, but also of his desire to remain true to himself and to protect his privacy and that of his loved ones as much as he possibly can. He also touches on his work on Outlander and his role as Jamie Fraser which, as a fan of both the show and the books, I found particularly fascinating and insightful.

Waypoints is a fascinating and engaging read that had me enthralled from beginning to end. I loved how Sam's walk along the West Highland Way, the interesting people he met on his journey and the stories of his life were intertwined, bringing the narrative full circle as Sam completed his charming, funny and wise journey of self discovery.

I have to admit I've admired Sam Heughan as an actor for a long time but now, after reading his gentle but deeply personal memoir, I can't help but admire the man he is when away from the spotlight even more.

Waypoints: My Scottish Journey is a gorgeously written memoir with a difference and one that I would highly recommend.
