'The Taxation of Goldounce' is an interesting story about Goldounce, the princess of Armedale, fleeing with her lady-in-waiting, Hallemina, at her sixteenth birthday party due to a disturbance. As they find refuge in a remote mansion, Armedale is lured into the outskirts of the palace only to get into more trouble, and that's when the adventure begins.
As you read along to get to know more of the princess's personality, you also see how her character grows. The dilemma, troubles, twists and turns in the storyline were very interesting to follow. This is a thought-provoking tale and digs deep into many aspects you initially do not think otherwise.
The plotline is executed well. Armedale is a strong female lead, and this inspires many readers. The dialogue and many aspects of the book are very much inclined toward the younger generation and the younger mind. I believe it suited the younger adult genre.
I recommend this book to those who like historical fictional tales and enjoy coming-of-age stories.
