I've not done a wrap-up in a really, really long time but I've decided to try and bring them back from this month on. So today is my wrap-up for August going through the things I read, some life updates and some of the things I'm reading going into September. Let's get to it.
Reading Wrap-Up
I read fourteen books in total this month, including two rereads and a DNF (which happened to be a reread too). For the most part I enjoyed the things I read, especially at the start of the month and at the very end. At this stage, I've got reviews for my first four reads of the month in this post about reading the books I bought this year and my three rereads here. All the others will have reviews throughout September.
These fourteen books bring me to 115 for the year so far, meaning I'm running a little behind on my 180 goal. My physical TBR is looking much better after this month—six of these books came off my physical TBR. But I didn't buy any books at all this month and I also unhauled 36 from my TBR (we'll talk about why in a post soon), bringing my TBR down to 314 which is only one off my goal for the year. Hopefully, we can keep that momentum going in September.
Life Updates
I very rarely do any kind of life updates here, mostly because my life updates are usually just 'my chronic pain is bad' or 'my diabetes tried to kill me again' but the next few months are going to be exciting so I thought I'd start doing them.
Some of the most exciting news is that we've been fostering a kitty. His name is Arthur and he's about nine months old. He was really badly treated previously so he's terrified of people, but he's been coming out of his shell and is such a precious boy. He loves pats. I swear I've never seen a cat enjoy pats this much—he drools! We're like 97% sure we're going to adopt him, we're just playing around with new names for him at the moment.
The place we've been fostering him for is in desperate need of supplies so I've basically been spending all of my free time knitting cat blankets. I've made one (plus a little sample) and I'm probably going to finish a second before this post goes up. I think I've got enough to make six blankets right now so I'll show them once a few more are done.
Currently Reading
Going into September, I've got quite a few books on the go. That wasn't really the plan, but I had to park a couple of my reads to prioritise finishing others by the end of the month. Because I'm spending so much time knitting, I've been relying a lot on audiobooks—I have three on the go at the moment because they all came into the library close to each other.

They're kind of an eclectic mix, but really what else would you expect from me? First is Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead which I started a little while back but switched my focus to Killing the Black Body because it was due back first. I'm 29% of the way through so far, but it is 25 hours long. I also started These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. This is a reread for me but I've been struggling with rereads so I thought switching to an audio might help. I'm 20% in and I am really enjoying it but it's not my main focus right now. Finally, The Hollow by Agatha Christie. I don't know what it is about this one but I was really struggling with it, so again switched to an audio. This is the shortest of the three so I'm at 7% and I'm hoping I'll finish it in the next two or three days.
I've also joined in with my best friend Angel of Angel Reads in a little challenge. A few weekends ago, she mentioned she was trying to mostly read from her shelves during September and I was immediately like yes, count me in. I'm giving myself four free spots to read eBooks as there are a couple I need for posts, but everything else is coming from my shelves. All of the audiobooks I just mentioned are ones that I own physically, so they'll all count. I'll talk more about this as I read things this month.
And that's it for August. What did you get up to? What were your favourite reads?
