Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town
What a wild couple of hours - Collingwood go one step closer to losing a Grand Final, and Channel Nine are going to win the Melbourne Cup TV rights by default, because Ten are so shit the VRC don't want them, and Channel Seven, despite being the clear preference for the TAB, withdrew.
All part of a plan to lure Eddie McGuire back into the open.
Anyway, it's time for Week 2 of the Spring Carnival, and if my maths are correct, this is the last Saturday without a Group 1 until the week after the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which isn't until...
NOVEMBER 18.
It's going to be a long and painful journey, friends.
So this week's action revolves around Moonee Valley and Rosehill, as the Valley hosts the Group 2 double of the McEwen Stakes and the timeless Feehan Stakes, the only ballot exemption race for the Cox Plate, while Rosehill has 4 different group races, starting with the Group 3 Ming Dynasty, then you have the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes for the Fillies & Mares, the Theo Marks Stakes for those heading to the Epsom, and the main event is the Run To The Rose for the 3-year-olds, with the Golden Rose coming up in a fortnight.
Other than that, some other highlight includes the Cairns Amateurs meeting, the Griffith Cup, held in the town made famous by Robert Trimbole, and the one-time home of my associate Mr Alfonse, and the other forgettable meeting is at Belmont, which is in Burswood, where they've got something called the Farnley Stakes...
Wasn't he the fat guy from Saturday Night Live that died?
That said, it's on to Crazy Craig, and some claim that he's actually dead right now, a claim entirely based on the fact that he hasn't picked a winner for the last 2 weeks, and for all I know those people are right, but one thing they'd be incorrect about is that he's still got his GOOD LUCK CHARM!
P(r)ick No.1: Rockeby Road (No.13, Barrier 3) E/W in Race 3 at Moonee Valley (MR3), 1:15pm AEST
2040m BM70 Ladbrokes Challenger
Trainer: Andrew Noblet, Jockey: Jordan Childs, 56kg
Hello hello everyone it's Craaaazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, back at my own personal expense this week because I can't pick a winner to pay for my scratchies!
For god's sake you selfish horses, start thinking about the down on their luck for a change!
On that note, first up this week I've gone to the great place known as Death Valley, and Rockeby Road has always been there or thereabouts this prep, and it makes me think that his owners could have something to do with Perth, because you know what famous Australian stadium used to be near Rockeby Road?
Subiaco Oval!
P(r)ick No.2: Howgoodareyou (No.9, Barrier 3) in Race 5 at Rosehill(SR5), 2:10pm AEST
1800m BM78 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders
Trainer: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Jockey: Rachel King, 55.5kg
Here we have a horse that asks the age-old question, how good are you?
Well, I'm good, but I'm not as good as Warrnambool, which, according to Ric McIntosh, IS BLOODY GOOD!
Especially around the start of May.
P(r)ick No.3: Ginger Baker (No.5, Barrier 7) E/W in Race 7 at Belmont (PR7), 4:35pm AWST
I recall having a great deal of success with Ginger Baker back in June…
More success than Cream had with him in 3 years!
Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, GAMBLE WITHIN REASON, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
