Purple Kiss are intent on keeping summer going throughout September, making a sharp turn and releasing their frothiest, most upbeat track yet. They've gone down the funky route before, but 7HEAVEN is downright ebullient. As a fan of big, summery dance tracks, this is music to my ears. Why not keep the party going all year long?
7HEAVEN is at its best when it keeps its tempo brisk and its melodies bright. Its chorus (and post-chorus) are instantly appealing, even if the sound feels a bit generic. The producers nail the shift into verse two, keeping the percussion chugging along to support the rap. This quickly segues into K-pop's perfunctory trap breakdown, but the segment is mercifully short. I'm more enthused by the fizzy synth breakdown that sets up 7HEAVEN's final chorus. More of that, please!
After whisking us into the track with a breezy energy, verse one pulls back too strongly for my taste. The first pre-chorus feels especially predictable, slowing the tempo before we blast into the chorus. 7HEAVEN is a definite success, but could have become even more potent with a taut, all-killer no-filler arrangement.
