இந்திய விண்வெளி அறிவியலாளரும், இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆய்வு நிறுவனத்தின் (இஸ்ரோ) முன்னாள் தலைவருமான கஸ்தூரிரங்கன் (Kasturirangan) பிறந்த நாள் அக்டோபர் 24. அவரைப் பற்றிய அரிய முத்துக்கள் 10:

# கேரள மாநிலம் எர்ணாகுளத்தில் (1940) பிறந்தவர். இவரது குடும்பம் நெல்லை மாவட்டத்தை பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்டது. மும்பை பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் இயற்பியலில் முதுநிலைப் பட்டம் பெற்றார். அகமதாபாத் இயற்பியல் ஆய்வுக் கூடத்தில் பணிபுரிந்தார். 1971-ல் விண்வெளியியல், விண்வெளி இயற்பியலில் முனைவர் பட்டம் பெற்றார்.

# இந்திய விண்வெளித் துறையில் சேர்ந்தார். இன்சாட், தொலை உணர்வு (ஐஆர்எஸ்) செயற்கைக்கோள்கள், பாஸ்கரா, துருவ செயற்கைக்கோள், பிஎஸ்எல்வி, ஜிஎஸ்எல்வி ராக்கெட்கள் என பல மகத்தான திட்டங்களில் முக்கியப் பங்காற்றி, நாட்டின் பெருமையை உலகம் அறியச் செய்தவர்.

# இஸ்ரோ செயற்கைக்கோள் மைய இயக்குநராக, இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆணையத்தின் செயலராகப் பணியாற்றியவர். இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனத்தின் (இஸ்ரோ) தலைவராக 9 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் பணிபுரிந்தார்.

# இந்தியாவின் கோள்கள் ஆராய்ச்சிக்கான முனைப்புகளை வழிநடத்தியவர். ஜிஎஸ்எல்வி, ஜிஎஸ்எல்வி எம்கே-III ஆகியவற்றின் மேம்பட்ட செயல்திறன்களுக்கான ஆய்வுகள்,உலகின் மிகச் சிறந்த தொலை உணர்வு வகையைச் சேர்ந்த ஐஆர்எஸ் 1சி, ஐஆர்எஸ் 1டி திட்டங்களை மேம்படுத்தியவர்.

# தற்போது விண்வெளி ஆராய்ச்சிகளில் சாதனை படைக்கும் முன்னணி நாடுகளில் ஒன்றாக இந்தியா திகழ்கிறது. இந்த பெருமையை நாம் பெறுவதற்கு முக்கியப் பங்காற்றியவர். வான் இயற்பியலாளரான இவர், உயர் ஆற்றல் கொண்ட எக்ஸ்ரே கதிர்கள், காஸ்மிக் கதிர்கள், காமா கதிர்கள், வான் ஒளியியல் ஆகிய துறைகள் தொடர்பான ஆராய்ச்சிகளிலும் அதிக ஆர்வம் கொண்டிருந்தார். இது தொடர்பான ஆராய்ச்சிகளை ஊக்குவித்தார்.

# இந்தியாவின் மிக உயரிய ஆராய்ச்சி முனைப்புகளுக்கான திட்டங்களை வரையறுத்தார். இவை இவரது தலைமையின் சாதனைத் திட்டங்களாக கருதப்படுகின்றன.

# மாநிலங்களவை உறுப்பினராக 1994-ம் ஆண்டு முதல் 2003-ம் ஆண்டு வரை பணியாற்றினார். வானியல், விண்வெளி அறிவியல் குறித்து 240-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட ஆய்வுக் கட்டுரைகளை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார். இவை தொடர்பாக 6 புத்தகங்களையும் எழுதியுள்ளார்.

# சாந்தி ஸ்வரூப் பட்நாகர் விருது, எம்.பி.பிர்லா நினைவு விருது, பத்மபூஷண், பத்மவிபூஷண் உள்ளிட்ட ஏராளமான விருதுகளைப் பெற்றுள்ளார். 16 பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள் இவருக்கு கவுரவ டாக்டர் பட்டம் வழங்கியுள்ளன.

# இந்தியா மட்டுமின்றி, உலகின் பல நாடுகளிலும் முக்கியமான அறிவியல் அமைப்புகளின் உறுப்பினராக இருந்துவருகிறார். சர்வதேச வானியல் அகாடமி உறுப்பினராகவும் அதன் துணைத் தலைவராகவும் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார். சர்வதேச வானியல் ஒன்றியத்தின் உறுப்பினராகவும் அறிவியல் அகாடமி, தேசிய பொறியியல் அகாடமியின் தலைவராகவும் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார்.

# நவீன இந்தியாவின் பிரபல விஞ்ஞானியாகப் போற்றப்படும் கஸ்தூரிரங்கன், இந்திய அரசின் திட்ட கமிஷன் உறுப்பினராகவும் பணியாற்றியவர். டெல்லியில் உள்ள ஜவஹர்லால் நேரு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் வேந்தராகப் பணியாற்றியவர். புதிய தேசிய கல்விக் கொள்கை 2020-ஐ வடிவமைத்த குழுவிற்கு தலைமை பொறுப்பு வகித்தவர்.
