Stick the heating on, put the garden to bed and bang a roast in the oven, because the majority of Brits will be getting "winter ready" this weekend.

A new poll has revealed that over the next few days, a resounding 73 percent will be battening down the hatches and getting their homes winter ready.

Put the Heating On

As many as 44 percent of those surveyed, said this weekend, the heating will be going back on permanently.

A further 39 percent will be enjoying their first winter roast, with all the trimmings this Sunday, while 41 percent will be getting their big coats out.

Cuddling with a blanket on the sofa (32 percent) and getting your slippers on (22 percent) also made the list of wintery things Brits will be doing for the first time this weekend.

As did, wearing boots (27 percent), putting the garden to bed (23 percent) lighting candles (24 percent) and snuggling down for a Sunday movie (17 percent).

Almost a quarter (24 percent) will be making soup and 26 percent will be changing the duvet to a warmer tog, according to the survey by Hello Hydrogen.

We like a Cosy Winter at Home

Overall, 83 percent agree autumn and winter are beautiful in the UK, with the perfect temp for the house emerging as a cosy 20.6C.

Londoners like it hottest, with the thermostat set to 21.1C, while Cambridge residents are keeping it cooler at just 20.2C. And while northerners have a reputation for being able to handle the cold, it seems that doesn't translate to the heating – those living in the North of the country have the thermostat at 20.5C, just 0.1C warmer than those in the South (20.6C).

Angie Needle, Campaign Director for Hello Hydrogen, who commissioned the survey commented, "Our survey says, Brits are officially ready for the Autumn and winter months, with this weekend being the most popular day to turn on the heating.

Autumn is the perfect time to cosy up at home with hearty roast dinners, cosy baths and watching movies cuddled up on the sofa.

Low-Carbon Heating Solutions

We know how important having a cosy home is when the colder months arrive and we're working to make low-carbon hydrogen home heating a reality for UK homes in the future – a fuss-free solution that's worth talking about."

However, the survey revealed 32 percent of couples argue about the date the heating should go on and what temperature it should be.

Overall, 48 percent of Brits prefer weekends in the autumn and the winter, with 30 percent saying they like not feeling guilty about staying inside.

While 43 percent feel weekends are cosier in the cooler months, and 16 percent enjoy staying on the sofa all day when it's cold outside.

Are you getting Winter Ready?

Are you getting the house winter ready this weekend? We have some family activities planned so there won't be much garden tidying, although that is on our to-do list. The weather is still mild here in Cheshire so we can probably do some jobs over the next few weekends. This is certainly my favourite time of year!
