The second book in the Salvagers science fantasy series.

Publication year: 2018
Format: Audio
Running time: 16 hours, 30 minutes
Narrator: Charlotte Blacklock
After the end of the previous book, A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe, the former racing champion and the former lone wolf Nilah Brio joined the crew of the Capricious. She and the ship's quartermaster Orna Soka are in a relationship and Nilah uses her machinist skills to help the crew. Meanwhile, the former treasure hunter Boots has used her money to build her dream: a distillery. However, Boots is becoming more and more dissatisfied with her life.
When the Caprious crew appears on Boots' doorstep and asks her to join one more heist together, she declines at first but in the end, she agrees.
The plot involves the Children of the Singularity, a cult that apparently has access to magic that can destroy whole planets. The crew decides to take them down. Also, Boots must deal with the man who destroyed her home planet.
The pacing is fast and furious. The book starts with an unsuccessful heist and the pace doesn't slow much. There are some character moments but not many. The plot includes Nilah going undercover first with Orna and later with a couple of new characters. The whole crew also goes undercover. Like in the previous book, this one has two POV characters, Nilah and Boots.
All the familiar crew returns along with two new characters.
If you liked the first book in the series, you'll most likely enjoy this one, too. It's entertaining even if there are a few plot holes and questionable choices from the characters.
I enjoyed most of the book and will continue to the final book.
