For the longest time, practically since its inception, black metal has long gone hand-in-hand with vibes of unfettered, unyielding evil that is all-consuming to a terrifying degree. Naturally, we've seen all sorts of bands bring it about on differing levels and intensities to where a large section of the style has shed those tendencies altogether while an equally large portion have sought to only deepen the harrowing reaches that black metal can take them throughout the vast underground. Out of the throngs that have become one with that darkening madness, Cultum Interitum is one that definitely stands out. It has only been three years since the Polish act put out its first full-length album, and they have not been quiet for long since with their third opus one that resonates quite strongly with the evil void many aspire to become one with.
When you're as adept at weaving the darkness such that it bends to your very will to the level that Cultum Interitum has achieved, fel glory is all that is sure to follow in the wake of such prowess. Since day one, Cultum Interitum has proven to be utterly deadly at this particular brand of black metal with time only honing their rituals and enriching their talent to the point that those who have come across them in the expansive underground know that they are absolutely the real deal when it comes to black metal with true sinister intent. With the six tracks of "Sacrum Funeral", it is debatable that such chaos has reached a new height for what Cultum Interitum has brought to the table thus far. For all that they manage to summon from Hell and beyond, "Sacrum Funeral" is straightforward in its approach which quickly allows Cultum Interitum's sound to become so surgically deadly that it's frightening just to watch not to mention experience firsthand. Supreme riffs compounded by the darkest of atmospheres born from long-forgotten tombs whose walls only the dead know and undeniable power not of this realm, "Sacrum Funeral" seeks to snuff out the very light of the universe with each individual track presented here a testament to that eternal night that is maliciously sought after by bands like Cultum Interitum. Yet, as they've proven before and again here, Cultum Interitum stands as a particularly powerful act who's among the accursed that can actually bring about such magnificent calamity through their devilish craft.
It is one thing to try and bring forth any level of menace into your music even if it is metal, but that doesn't mean you can fully embrace it and go all the way to such a point that it makes the soul cower just to consider it. That is but the tip of the spear for the onslaught that Cultum Interitum has become known for in virtually no time at all. With what they've delivered within "Sacrum Funeral", their influence from the darkest of shadows is now cemented as nothing short of indisputable.
