Book Description:

OLIVIA.
22 years old.
Last seen on CCTV, entering a dead-end alley.
And not coming back out again.
Missing for one day and counting . . .

Julia is the detective heading up the case. She knows what to expect. A desperate family, a ticking clock, and long hours away from her husband and daughter. But Julia has no idea how close to home it's going to get.

Because there's a man out there. And his weapon isn't a gun, or a knife: it's a secret. Her worst one.

He tells her that her family's safety depends on one thing: Julia must NOT find out what happened to Olivia - and must frame somebody else for her murder . . .

What would you do?

My Thoughts:

We meet Julia who is a workaholic to say the least which has led to problems in her marriage. She is very close to her daughter, although again, her work means she misses out on a lot of important events. She doesn't seem to have gotten the balance of work and home life right which at times she regrets.

We get to know quite early on what Julia's secret is and it is a good one but it could blow her whole world apart if it gets out. When someone blackmails her with the knowledge that they know what she did, she is backed into an impossible position. I didn't envy Julia at all and it poses the question of what you would do if you were in the same position.

The story is told in first person in alternating chapters between the key characters. It's one you really need to give your full attention to as it's quite complex and sometimes I did find myself feeling a bit lost. The investigation into missing Olivia is a mystery in itself and have to say that it gets very twisted and the outcome is literally mind blowing!

Having read and loved another of the author's books recently, I think I had high hopes for this one to. Whilst it is one that I still enjoyed, I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. I found I struggled to keep up with the story at times and some parts for me, I wasn't sure how believable they were which in turn niggled at me. The twists are shockers with one that really had my jaw drop to the floor. So all in all, it's one I would definitely recommend as there is a lot going for it. The ending wraps up nicely, although its all a little convenient but it is what I had found myself hoping for.
