Hello December! It's Queer Lit Readathon time!
This readathon is hosted by Kathy and Rogan with guest hosts Bear and Luce. All links go to the hosts' announcements where you can learn more about the readathon and the challenges! This round lasts from December 3rd-9th.
I usually try to go for a specific bingo, but this time, the books I want to prioritize aren't lining up, so I'm just trying to knock out as many squares as I can with these 4 (ish) books!
Eight Kinky Nights by Xan West
I have put this book on many December TBRs, but this is the year! Eight Kinky Nights is about two middle aged friends engaging in a kinky, D/s relationship throughout Chanukah to help work things out about themselves... and maybe find love along the way.
This book is counting for the prompts "Holiday," "???" for Intersectional as both characters are also neurodivergent, and "Self-pub/small press."
Our Favorite Songs by Anita Kelly
This series, Moonlighters, is a cute novella series about queer relationships made at this karaoke bar. This is the second book in the series and the last book I need to read to finish! Here we have Kai and Aiden, who aren't on even footing, but upon getting snowed in, have the chance to clear the air.
This book I'm counting for "Continued," "Escape," and "Relatable" (bisexual MC).
Boys Run the Riot Vol. 1-4 by Keito Gaku & trans. Leo McDonagh
In 2021, I read the first volume of Boys Run the Riot, a manga about a trans teen who pairs up with the local "bad boy" to make street fashion. I really enjoyed it and now, two years later, I finally own all 4 volumes, so I'm using this readathon as an excuse for a reread/continuation! I'm not sure if I'll read all 4 in the week, but I hope to at least start the reread during the readathon.
This book counts for the prompts "???" which I'm counting as "Manga," "Most Recently Acquired" (I just bought Volume 2 in October), "Continued," and "Graphic Novel" (yes, I know manga and graphic novels are culturally different, but the hosts encourage stretching prompts to your own purpose and as this is a novel told in images, I'm counting it for the graphic novel prompt."
The Forgotten and The Feared by E.C. Garrett
I received an eARC of this book from the author. This is a dark fantasy book about a deadly game to killing dragons in order to survive. It's also the biggest on my TBR at a whopping 600 pages, so I don't think I'll finish it in a week, but I'll hopefully at least start it!
This book counts for the prompts "Progress Pride Flag" (cause of all the red), "???" for Fantasy, "Small press/Self-pub," and "Most Recently Acquired" (eARC).
And that is all I am committing myself to in December! I do plan on reading the rest of the eARCs I have and hopefully a couple more holiday reads as well, but for those, you'll have to wait until my wrap-up post to see all the books I'm rounding out the year with!
Have you read any of these books? Are you participating in the Queer Lit Readathon? How are you ending your reading year? Let me know in the comments!
