Two Great Movies I Haven't Talked About Yet

I have hurt myself a bit when slowing down my blogging pace because I haven't been able to get to everything that I've watched. Sometimes that means I have to write posts like this to catch myself up with the anime films that I've watched this year. Especially since it's getting close to the end of the year and I am going to write a post about all the films that I've watched this year. I'm about to write some more posts about this soon and I want to make sure these two series are on that list on some level.

So yeah, I'm going to discuss these two very good films now even if I am not giving them the time they deserve. So consider this unfair if you want, but it's just the way things at at the moment

Sing a Bit of Harmony

The concept of this film is really cool and very in the now considering that it explores ai a bit. A very family friendly way considering how this is pretty much an older Disney film. In high school, a girl named Satomi Amano is shunned by her classmates after a massive event occurred. Enter our ai girl who can do everything except normal human things named Shion. This robot ai girl is her mother's secret project to slowly merge ai into society. The thing is it's not going well, but it does help Satomi to gain some friends and live a better life again.

In a lot of ways, this film is very ET because the company behind her mother's project wants to destroy her after failing to some degree by overheating or doing something insanely robotic. The only way Shion exists for a while when not singing and being really cool is having Satomi and her new friends step in to wip the records of what is going on and save the day. Of course it doesn't work continually and eventually the group of friends has to save her from the company that no longer wants her to exist. So she really is a life changing robot.

Yeah, this film is really good. Its moral lessons around AI are pretty simplistic, but it makes for a very good story. Exactly what it needs to be including all the wonderful song numbers. It's a very earnest film that is more about Satomi's friendship then it is about ai because of how Shion is the magical problem fixer in a different form. This film is gorgeous on so many levels and feels a bit nostalgic despite it being from a couple years ago. Disney isn't the only place that can create a music animated film. I barely covered this one, so please check it out.

Josee, The Tiger, and the Fish

What such a good take on a two people meet kind of romance film. It could be considered a boy and girl meeting and falling in love. It's the details that make this film feel special. Especially regarding Josee, not only being a shy girl who doesn't get out much, but she is kind of afraid of it because she can't walk. She's stuck in a wheelchair and only gets around because of her grandmother. She also loves art and the sea. Then there is Tsuneo who is a marine biology student and works at a diving stop. One day, she runs into Josee and her grandmother and ends up working at Josee's house as a car taker.

That part of Josee slowly having Tsuneo show her the world and start developing her own friendships with people outside and Josee sharing her interests with the world when creating her books. There is also that classic tension of Tsuneo having a scholarship and studying in another country. Or when Josee's grandmother dies and suddenly she has to take an office job instead of following her dreams for a while. There is a story where it all works out in the end somehow anyway. It's all really good romance drama because everything works out in some interesting ways. Eventually, everything does get into an understanding when Tsuneo gets in an accident and has to learn how to walk again because it allows the two to find an equal ground with each other. Otherwise, no one else would see it either.

So yeah, I highly recommend this Studio Bones film because it's very well written, beautifully animated, and just will crush your souls in some interesting way. The art is beautiful, there are some fantastic direction, excellent character designs for really good characters that you can feel like they exist, and the scenery on every single scene is amazing here.  I can love and appreciate so many good things that happen in this film because it is such a stellar piece of work here. It did find some kind of audience when it came out so I was behind when I finally watched it, but I really love it honestly.
