Of all the glories that are to be found throughout the dense metal underworld that always seems to be sprawling into every different direction without ever once forgetting to pay reverence to its origins, one of those that always gets us excited at any given time has got to be the very prospect of rising talent. Any of us could name an absolute menagerie of different names across different styles that are up-and-coming, doing real justice for the sound, and have bright futures ahead of them given what's been accomplished in past works. Death metal is far from the exception with there being thousands of names from all across the world that are worthy of being dubbed highly anticipated for future material. Engulf has to be one of the most exciting of those with its string of three EPs from 2017 to 2019 something that really caused a stir in many corners of the metal world. Now, years later, it's time for Engulf to show us what's possible with its first full-length album that's precisely the kickstart of excellence 2024 needs.

For all that Engulf brought to the table in those three EPs, I don't think there's much that could have properly given listeners enough time to really prepare for just how far Engulf would take its sound in order to ensure that its initial full-length album is one that sets the standard to a new high and shows what us this multi-faceted act has been devising for all this time. Not so much as a moment wasted nor opportunity squandered, "The Dying Planet Weeps" easily stands as Engulf's greatest work to date not just because it's obviously the longest work from the act to date, but it is certifiably the most mature and accomplished the act has pulled off. We're put right into the midst of Engulf's utterly overwhelming power whether it comes in the form of intense melody or mind-boggling instrumentation, oftentimes both, with every single one of these eight tracks having some to offer that the previous did not to truly ensure that "The Dying Planet Weeps" not only stands its ground, but is constantly advancing into new sonic territory to really show us the domination Engulf is constantly battling to attain a chokehold upon the listener whose power is constantly evolving and showing us time after time that a simple approach was never the kind of result Engulf was going to settle for. A demonstration of technical prowess that has so much to offer in every regard, what Engulf has summoned forth to bring this record into being cannot be understated when it comes to its power, talent, personality, and simple but utterly deadly dominating force.

Plenty have been speculating "The Dying Planet Weeps" to be the first great achievement for death metal in the new year, and I'm inclined to agree with them. Engulf has long been poised to really astound and bewilder more so than it already has in the past with that renowned streak of EPs, but it is now that the wholly uncontested dominion of Engulf should being in full force! "The Dying Planet Weeps" capitalizes on every possible facet that Engulf had going for it before it was even penned, and it should be clear after just a single spin of the album that Engulf's power is nothing that has of us should ever take lightly with its very power the sort that tears planets asunder.

"The Dying Planet Weeps" releases on January 12th via Everlasting Spew Records!
