Healthy Choices - Lydia Bugg
Book 87 (audiobook)
I am not entirely sure what drew me into this one, the blurb piqued my interest but reading it back I am not sure why. Whatever the reason I am glad I gave it a go because this was a pretty enthralling listen.
The main character is a woman who has tried every diet going but still cannot drop that weight, much to the annoyance of her mother who has always dreamed of having a "healthy" (translation skinny) and beautiful daughter. After finding out that a new diet program is running trials in their state the mother signs her daughter up. She gets accepted to the program and is whisked away to a private medical facility. No food, no phones, no outside human contact. Things are about to get weird, and boy oh boy do they.
Given the topic it came as little surprise that there is a large amount of content about body image, and how the characters have all been fat shamed at one point or other, so just be aware of that.
This was a relatively quick audiobook and I was completely sucked in. It's not the best book in the world but it had a real "b movie" horror vibe to it.
I only realised at the end of it that it is a Scribd (Now Everand) exclusive, so if you aren't a member I don't think you can get it anywhere else - if you are, give it a go.
