Structure and consistency is something that we all crave for in one form or another with music absolutely being a big piece of our lives that almost always benefits from a rigid structure. In certain reaches of what music has to offer, however, such boundaries and form can fall apart in an instant should those crafting the material seek something that simply cannot be pinned down nor put into any sort of a box. For several albums and years, Myælin has never been one to settle and make music that fits snuggly within one, two, or even three genres as it is with their ever-changing sound that Myælin embodies what it means to be free-spirited and experimental but no less than tremendously effective as such an elusive craft. For their latest creation, Myælin went all-in with those tendencies to bring forth a transformative experience that takes great influence from the likes of Aleister Crowley.
At this point, the sheer volume of what Myælin has accomplished in the past should be more than enough to get anybody interested in what the act is capable of. Along with a line-up that is constantly changing with all sorts of different aspects brought to the table in each iteration, Myælin has never been an act that we can ever hope to have any expectations for given the simple fact that we never know what we're going to get with each new creation. For the four expansive tracks of "Naesekhnaetri", it can easily be argued that Myælin has reached an all-time high. Never once treading the same space and constantly pushing themselves in every aspect be it through the range of the vocals, the riffs that blend magnificently together, the fluid songwriting that's as unpredictable as it is awe-inspiring, or something in between which Myælin uses to weave a tremendous experience through much of Crowley's works with his ideals and concepts done extreme justice in every given moment of what "Naesekhnaetri" puts forth. The album works in a very wide, loose range of psychedelic doom that is barely able to keep everything together as Myælin's bounding between genres is a form of whiplash in of itself, those elements still play a critical role in the overall excitement which Myælin wields with wild aptitude and to deadly effect.
"Naesekhnaetri" is a constantly reminder of what it means to be free like the wind and as powerful as a millennia-old river with Myælin navigating its twists and turns, eddies and rapids, and vast, sprawling expanse that become nigh on intimidating to behold, but never once does Myælin allow such a wild tempest to overcome and wash away their vision. Rather, they show us the epitome of going with the flow, making their way through such perils, and coming out the other side with an experience that no one else is likely to replicate in any capacity.
