| Jen Lucas Dec 1 | #Bookvent - Celebrating my top reads of 2023 Welcome to #Bookvent 2023 - the time where I count down my favourite reads of the year. For those who are new to #Bookvent, the rules are simple. Books chosen will have been published and reviewed this year, all will be five star reads at the very least, and anything that has a red hot reads badge is automatically through to the list. It's the quickest way to narrow down my reading list from 180 titles to just 24 (or 26 in this years case - they were just so many fab reads I couldn't choose. I've added in an extra non-fiction post this year too as there were so many brilliant memoirs in my list it was impossible not to, and it felt a little wrong ranking them amongst their fictional counterparts. Speaking of ranking, the list is in publication date order - no reflection of where the books sit in my affections - up to the 23rd & 24th December where I count down my top four books ( I really couldn't narrow down to just three), culminating in my 2023 Book of the Year. Without further ado, let me introduce my first #Bookvent title of 2023. I can't believe it's been more than a year since I read it - it's one of those that lingers long in the mind after the final page is turned. It was actually one of my most hotly anticipated titles of the year and it did not disappoint. From the very opening pages you can feel that unnerving edge to the book, the sense that something dark is about to follow. And dark it most certainly was.
