I'm not a lover of Sci-fi or fantasy, those are two genres I've never quite gelled with, but I do love a good spook story, or stories with a supernatural element, and I grew up loving ghost stories and tales of witches and warlocks and things that go bump in the night, as well as the good old mysteries and crime novels. This book tapped into a little bit of both of those, being part folklore and legend, and part mystery and suspense. Overwhelmingly it was 100% entertaining and from the very opening chapters I was hooked. It's no wonder it made it onto the BBC's Between The Covers list this year.
