Blurb:
Two things in life have always come easy to me: winning medals in competitive swimming and hooking up with beautiful women. Riding high from an Olympic victory, I was heading back home for my cousin's wedding. As soon as I touched down, I was on the lookout for a post ceremony hookup. I had to look no further than the bridal party or more specifically the brunette bombshell who was the maid of honor. To my surprise, she not only remembered me from when we were kids, but she wasn't my biggest fan. Undaunted, I set out to show her just how hot angry sex could be. While I'd fully expected a night of passion, the worst possible thing happened the morning after…
I fucking fell for her.
But to my utter disbelief, she wanted nothing more to do with me. I am a guy who has never had to chase a chick, but I'm about to launch into a full-on pursuit to make her mine.
My 5* Review:
The Pursuit by Katie Ashley is a Proposition / Runaway Train fusion novel. I loved both these series so was very excited to read about the next generation. This story is about Aidan and Emma Fitzgerald's son Noah, and Mia and AJ Resendiz's daughter Gabriella 'Gaby'.There are other links back to The Proposition because it is Alpesh's stepson getting married that brings this couple together. It is an enemies-to-lovers, opposites-attract, he falls first story, which is full of entertaining banter and some very steamy scenes.
Noah is an Olympic gold medal swimmer and hopes to go to the next games as part of the US team. He is a very charming, confident and flirty guy. He is known as a player who enjoys all the attention from being a famous sportsman. He usually follows a rigorous training schedule in Atlanta but has two weeks off for his best friend and cousin Mason's wedding. He is the best man so he's looking forward to hooking up with a bridesmaid while he is back home.
Gaby is the quiet, shy member of her family and prefers to stay out of the limelight. She feels things deeply but has insecurities mainly to do with her curvy figure and has recently had her heart broken. At the wedding she is the maid of honour to her best friend from college Laurel, who is getting married to one of her childhood best friends, Mason. When she was an awkward teenager she'd had a run in with Noah so wasn't looking forward to seeing him again especially as he was such a womaniser now.
"Listen only to the beat of your heart."
Noah couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Gaby because she had grown up into a beautiful woman. He was shocked at her accusations against him and apologised but immediately chatted her up. She refuses his advances and wanted nothing to do with him. Noah had never had that happen before and his brother thinks its hilarious. He is determined to change her mind about him and an incident starts his pursuit of her. Their connection and chemistry is very strong and she stands up to him and gives him so much sass.
"One hell of a pursuit had turned into the greatest blessing of my life."
Noah wants more but has never had to pursue a girl before. I loved how Aidan tells Noah to put the effort in and show Gaby how incredible she is. As they get to know each other, he finds her funny, smart and caring but also gorgeous and sexy. Gaby is shocked Noah is interested in her but doesn't want to get hurt so can Noah reform his ways.
I giggled so much at their attempts to prove their relationship was more than their antics in bed. Noah knows he fallen for her so wants to continue the relationship after he leaves. She is worried that he'll go back to his womanising ways in Atlanta so has the player met his match? Gaby wants a boyfriend who will put her and their relationship first. Can he love her and love swimming or has he finally found something more important in his life?
I loved catching up with their parents and many of their scenes were hilarious. I laughed at how afraid Noah was of AJ. Both the Fitzgerald boys have certainly inherited Aidan's cocky attitude and huge ego. I liked hearing how everyone was getting on and how the Runaway Train kids had their own band. There is some interesting tension between Bella and Jude, so I hope we get their story next. This was like a trip down memory lane and I am so pleased Katie is back writing.
