Pennsylvania laid overtop of me, a grave and a curse and a daydream the august heat suffocating and lovely all at once
I will remember the sweet syrup of this moment, driven mad by your head thrown back in laughter, the white of your teeth hung high in the dark of the night
I needed you more than anything, more than water or blood or anything else and you were there, you made and broke me broke me like a stallion, taught me softness when it was not my nature
Together we make our own suburban legend, bleached by sunlight and frozen in amber, darling daughters of loving lost causes, knights of surrender, patrons of these slithering back roads
The world awaits and we press our backs to the door like we might keep out its greedy hands as we beg for one more minute, one more second, before it all comes rushing in
This town above me, this town buried me, I am paralyzed by my love for it all those sorrowful goodbyes are clawing at my throat, but I can't say it, could never say it to you
