It's Chinese New Year, a time to celebrate…
Fresh from their honeymoon, Meddy and Nathan meet the Aunties in Jakarta for a family celebration. Amid the festivities, an old flame of Second Aunt's arrives with extravagant gifts. Unfortunately, not all the presents were meant for them.
NOT the time to start an all-out war.
The item goes missing, putting Meddy and the Aunties in the middle of a feud between Jakarta's most powerful business moguls – and in great danger. To save her loved ones, Meddy must organise a search party, a break-in and a kidnapping. It might sound impossible – but with the Aunties by her side, nothing is impossible… just complicated.
I was delighted to find there was a third book in this delightfully madcap series - Meddy and her Aunts have been some of my favourite literary people to spend time with over the last few years. As expected this book was full of the warmth and fun that underpinned the previous and that allows the over the top feel of the rest of the plot to sweep us along.
Meddy is a delightful character and her love for her Aunts shines through even as they find ever more ways to frustrate her.
This time Meddy, her new husband Nathan and her Aunts need to contend with a kidnapping (that may or may not involve a mob boss). Inevitably things slip more and more out of Meddy's control the more involved her Aunties get. Add to this the constant questions about when Meddy is going to have a baby now that she's married and she could be forgiven for hiding under her duvet and refusing to come out! She doesn't of course - someone needs to keep a level head after all.
As with the other books in this series I also loved the glimpses into a culture different from my own, from the expected behaviours to the celebration of events.
I do think this is a series that you probably need to read the first one of before jumping in further on so do check out the brilliant Dial A for Aunties if you haven't already!
With thanks to HQ and Netgalley for a digital copy ahead of publication in exchange for honest review.
The Good, The Bad and The Aunties will be available March 2023
