Here it is—my last wrap-up for 2023. December was a pretty busy month for me and yet I don't have that much to talk about here, but without further ado, let's jump right in.
Reading Wrap Up
Well, you can see the title. This was my worst reading month, I think since 2015. I read 7 books, which is half what I read in November. Even though this wasn't the number I was hoping for, I did at least enjoy all of these so it's not all bad. Of the seven, three of them were rereads and I had no DNFs. I talked on Monday about how my reading goals panned out, so you can check that out here if you're interested in that.
Life Updates
This has mostly been a month of packing. My partner and I are about to move interstate in a few weeks so December was spent calling various real estate agents, packing up our entire apartment and worrying about how everything would come together. Here's hoping everything works out.
We actually had to cancel our Christmas plans because both of us were sick. We weren't sure what it was and my grandfather is 93 and I didn't want to risk his health. We honestly enjoyed ourselves anyway, getting to spend the day with just Alex and the cats is literally my dream Christmas.
There were some other good moments too. I got to see a few people I hadn't seen for years, did lots of knitting and got to wrap up the month and year doing a buddy read with Helen. All things considered, it was a good end to what has been a difficult year for me.
Movies & TV
I planned to watch a few things this month, but as per usual, that didn't happen. I did manage to watch the entire season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty in a single day while I worked out one of my knitting projects. I don't know that I like the show, but it makes for good mindless watching. I also watched the new movie The Other Zoey on the same day. Again, this was good for mindless watching while I was knitting.
Currently Reading
Because I was feeling so slumpy this month, I started many things that I'm now trying to finish. I have three that I'm trying to focus on right now.
The Unadoptables by Hana Tooke
This was my buddy read with Helen. We started this on Boxing Day but I just didn't get around to finishing it before January. I'm hoping to have finished it either last night or this morning as you're reading this. I'll speak more about it soon.
Mrs McGinty's Dead (Hercule Poirot #32) by Agatha Christie
This is my audiobook right now. I'm 25% through as I'm writing this and again, I'm hoping to finish it by the day this post is out. This is very average right now, but I'm still enjoying Hugh Fraser's reading of it.
Fourth Wing (The Empyrean #1) by Rebecca Yarros
Well, I'm finally here. I'd been sort of avoiding this but also not. I loved Rebecca Yarros' The Last Letter so I was excited but I was also sticking to my book buying ban. I ended up waiting, I think it was 9 weeks, for a library hold of the ebook and it finally came in the other day. I'm only 5% in so more thoughts on this one soon too.
And that's it for December and for 2023. So it wasn't exactly the month I was hoping for, but I'm looking forward to 2024 and all the things that are coming with the new year.
