Despite how it can be ever so easy to maintain focus on big bands or, at least, established acts in the vast expanse that is the underground, the true life and blood of it all comes from those that rise from nothingness. That's where we get so much of this talent with practically every new name that comes around starting off in that grand abyss that holds nothing back for anyone be they incapable of climbing the ranks or a beacon of immense talent. We're fortunate enough to realize this as a collective and be on the constant lookout for new material that is to be discussed when it comes to new names that are fresh to our ears no matter the style. With a brand of death metal that takes the concept of writhing to a new level, the expertise behind the new name of Fathomless Ritual is already throwing down excellence for us to throw ourselves before.
Given the sheer berth of all that death metal is capable of in the modern age, there's almost no reason for death metal to be boring in any extent. For all the innovation and understanding of the style there is out there, one can expect to effortlessly come upon a new act on a somewhat consistent basis that doesn't only intrigue but outright impress. The reputation of the mastermind behind Fathomless Ritual precedes him with the work in acts like Gutvoid, Fumes, Pukewraith and more speaking for themselves many times over, but it is hands down with everything that's brought forth within the eight tracks of "Hymns for the Lesser Gods" that sees the master take his craft to another level. Rather than put forth death metal that is straightforward and easy to expect, the very whole of this record sends forth a breed of madness that is as self-consuming as it is obsessed with annihilation across each and every pathetic dimension within reach of its curling tentacles. A swirling mass that is nigh-on intoxicating to look deep upon and irresistible to not dive into, every possible moment of this debut is meant to truly peel apart the human psyche and eviscerate every given ligament in the pathetic human vessel with naught clear in the future but desolation heretofore untold of as "Hymns for the Lesser Gods" heralds in entities that can only be described as Lovecraftian. Where may seek to traverse but only the best are able to master, Fathomless Ritual has not just already poised itself for immense greatness but has achieved it right off the bat.
We are sure to be treated to some great death metal slowly unfolds to show us all that it has to offer one day at a time, but of all the efforts that have already been confirmed, Fathomless Ritual makes itself known as one of the absolute need-to-know creations that 2024 has already put before us. Everything about this record is the definition of horrific with naught but terror to be had around every corner, and it's with each given moment of "Hymns for the Lesser Gods" that the very light of existence is slowly being snuffed out.
