This year I managed to read 92 books, I had set a target of 52, but had also secretly hoped to hit my usual 100. A combination of a hectic year and a couple of weeks of illness meant my reading took a little bit of a hit which may account for not hitting the 100, but 92 is still an incredible number so I am happy enough. 2024 will see another target of 52 set, so lets see how we go.
For now, here are some of my favourite books that I read in 2023, in the order I read them.
Love Will Tear Us Apart - C.K. McDonnell
Caimh always makes my list, deservedly so.
Taste - Stanley Tucci
I have been banging on about this one to everybody. A great book.
Yellowface - R.F. Kuang
There very much appears to be a marmite vibe around this book. I am in the loved it gang.
The Wager - David Grann
I didn't realise this was non fiction until I was quite far into the book. It is written excellently, absolutely loved it.
Water - John Boyne
The first in John Boyne's Elements series is a fantastic little novella, a real "one go" read.
Falling Animals - Sheila Armstrong
A book I find hard to describe properly but absolutely loved. Have recommended to all in sundry.
Prophet Song - Paul Lynch
I only read this after it had already won The Man Booker Prize but I couldn't fault it. A fantastic book that left me agog by the end.
Special Mention
Strange Sally Diamond - Liz Nugent
If I had not read this about six months before general release it would definitely be on the 2023 list. Loved it.
